GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Thursday asked town planning wing and revenue wing officials to form teams led by Chief City planner S Devender Reddy and probe the matter.

It may be mentioned here that The Hans India had carried a report on Thursday that over 6,000 illegal cell towers had come up with connivance of municipal staff resulting in heavy revenue loss.

GHMC commissioner asked the officials to conduct a comprehensive survey on both legal and illegal cell towers and submit a detail report within two weeks.

He said that corporation would take stringent action on telecom companies and officials if found guilty.

Besides this, the GHMC is planning to handover the responsibilities pertaining to issue of permission and collecting property tax to circle offices.

So far even if someone used to complain about cell towers coming up in their areas, the circle officers used to tell them that it was not within their purview and they should go to the head office and complain. They neither used to take any action nor were they sending any such report to the head office.

The GHMC has now decided to put the onus of issuing permissions for cell towers and collecting property tax on the circle offices, Janardhan Reddy said.
