Hyderabad: Dubbing Valentine’s Day celebrations on February 14 every year as nothing but a mania, Telangana State Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Rama Raju observed that boys and girls indulging in indiscriminate obscene acts in the name of celebration was a social crime and it should be proscribed as it vitiated Indian culture and traditions.

He was speaking at poster release against the Valentine’s Day by the Bajrang Dal here on Friday. Speaking to media persons, VHP city convener Veereshalingam said they were opposing the Valentine’s Day event for the past ten years as it is anti-Hindu and Indian culture.

“We are totally against the events like Kissing Day, Hugging Day and so on of western culture. He also alleged that pubs and bars had been encouraging obscene western culture in Hyderabad city and making sacred colleges and schools as centres of amorous activities.

He said the Bajrang Dal would not keep quiet and warned of dire consequences if any pubs or bars organised Valentine’s Day events to make quick bucks.

The VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders appealed to the youth not to participate in such events and condemn them. Those who participated in the Valentine’s Day event would be given counselling in the presence of their families, he said.

The Telangana Bajrang Dal posters were also released on Friday. They also demanded that the government ban Valentine’s Day celebrations and protect Indian culture.Bajrang Dal leaders Jeevan, Vijay Sharma, Mukesh and others were present.
