Warangal: The Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj assured the parents of Mamidala Vamshi Reddy, the M. Tech student of Warangal Urban district who was shot dead in California, that the process of bringing back the body would be expedited.

The Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj telephoned Sanjeeva Reddy, father of Vamshi Reddy, on Monday and expressed her deep condolences over the tragic incident and informed that Vamshi’s killer has been arrested by the US Police.

She also assured that arrangements would be made to bring Vamshi's body home. She said that representation would also be made with the US authorities to render stringent punishment to those responsible for Vamshi's murder

Vamshi was allegedly shot dead at Milpitas, California by a man suspected to be a carjacker. The incident was said to have happened on Saturday morning, as per Indian Standard Time, when he was returning after completing his part-time shift at a local store.

The culprit responsible for the homicide was a drug addict and was arrested by the US police, the Minister told the victims’ family. The Minister also tweeted saying she was pained to know about the tragic death of Vamshi Mamidala.

Meanwhile, Sanjeeva Reddy accompanied by local BJP leader A Rakesh Reddy and others called on BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy, who spoke to the Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP USA unit President urging them to support the family.

The US consulate officials reportedly told the US BJP unit leaders that they have received a letter from the Minister and efforts were being made to send Vamshi Reddy’s body to India at the earliest.

‘We are expecting to receive the body on Thursday’ Rakesh Reddy, a family friend of Sanjeeva Reddy said.

The victims’ family members also met the Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari in Hyderabad and he assured them of all possible support on behalf of the State government.
