The Government of India’s objective of space programme of development of satellites, launch vehicles, sounding rockets and associated ground systems – pioneered for 36 years – came out with flying colours and transformed India as a capable nation which can independently launch missiles.

Indian Space Research Organisation’s relentless research and successful launching of satellites/missiles into space has been a successful process. Right from putting the 35 kg Rohini satellite into orbit till now, a series of successes has proved it a record achiever.

The latest flight of long range, strategic ballistic missile, Agni-IV – surface to surface missile empowered to travel 4,000 km and can carry a nuclear warhead weighing one tonne, tested from a road-mobile launcher is another feather in its cap.

The latest venture of lifting of 104 satellites into orbit simultaneously is a pointer to India's march forward. In the context of North Korean and China's nuclear weaponry threat, India needs to carry on developing space research (News item: "India's space programmes food for thought: China," dated 17th). Nation salutes ISRO and its team.
