Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced a slew of sops for the welfare of weaving community and assured that the Warangal Textile Park would be promoted as one of the biggest parks on the lines of Surat and Tirupur.

The Chief Minister who held a detailed meeting on handloom workers’ welfare and handloom development at Pragathi Bhavan with representatives of weavers’ associations, ministers and advisors to government, announced a three pronged strategy for the development of the Padmashali community.

KCR said as a first step, financial assistance would be provided to those weaving general cloth. Subsidy will be given on yarn and chemicals and the government will purchase the cloth weaved by them. A policy will be framed for marketing the special and exclusive sarees woven in Narayanpet, Gadwal, and Pochampally as these sarees have international market.

He said the government will arrange for funds for the development of the powerloom sector. Uniforms for the school children, blankets and cloth requirement of the government hostels will be procured from the weavers in Telangana. This step will ensure adequate work for the handloom and power loom sectors in the State.

He said the government’s aim is to ensure that the power loom workers get a salary of Rs 15,000 per month and that thrift scheme be introduced for them so that they can get financial assistance during emergencies. He asked power loom weavers to upgrade their looms for higher production.

KCR said the government would also help Padmashalis who left the profession and switched over to alternative jobs and try to bring them back into the profession of weaving.

He said the government would soon come out with a comprehensive policy for the handloom and powerloom weavers. He said the Warangal textile park would be developed as number one textile park in the country. Besides ginning and spinning, other industries will also come up in a big way in these parks and there will not be any marketing problem.

Siricilla powerlooms will be integrated with the Warangal Textile Park, the CM said. KCR also announced setting up of an Apparel park at Siricilla. Women from the weaver’s community will be given training and will be employed in making the readymade clothes.
