​Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail(HRM) authorities in a meeting with Telangana Chief Secretary S P Singh on Monday are said to sought extension of time for the completion of the three corridors of Metro Rail in the city, according to sources.

The government proposes to start the two stretches of Metro Rail- Miyapur to SR Nagar (11 km) of Corridor I and Nagole-Begumpet (16 km) of corridor III would be opened mid this year on June 2 and the entire stretch of these two corridors (56 km) would be opened for traffic this year itself. Corridor II up to MGBS would be opened mid next year.

The 72-km elevated Metro Rail project was initially scheduled to be completed by July 2017 the concessionaire agreement. However, changes in alignment, land acquisition, alignment in Old City route etc have resulted in missing the deadline. The authorities later fixed the target as December 2018.

According to sources, 61 km of foundations, 59 km of pillars and 50 km of viaduct were completed. The Metro Rail MD N V S Reddy was not available for comment.
