The Transport department on Monday decided to submit budget proposals seeking Rs 1,064 crore from the government for the year 2017-18. According to Transport Minister Mahender Reddy the department would require Rs 167 crore for buildings RTA offices in the State.

Hyderabad: The Transport department on Monday decided to submit budget proposals seeking Rs 1,064 crore from the government for the year 2017-18. According to Transport Minister Mahender Reddy the department would require Rs 167 crore for buildings RTA offices in the State.

The officials informed the minister that the department issues 25 lakh smartcards in the form of driving licenses, RCs and it would require Rs 15 crore from the government for this exercise. Rs 140 crore would be utilised for procuring new buses. The corporation would also ask the government to pay reimbursements in the form of bus passes of Rs 590 crore and give a loan of Rs 334.72 crore.

He said that importance would be given to providing basic amenities at the bus stands. The minister said that RTC was sanctioned Rs 633.16 crore during the previous year and the corporation only received Rs 483.83 crore. The minister said that he would urge the Chief Minister to provide more funds to the corporation this year.
