Hyderabad: It had been the taunting game of cat and mouse between the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) members and the police for the last two days with both the sides vying to outdo each other.

The JAC leaders alleged that the police had stayed on their tail wherever they went to garner support for the proposed ‘Nirudyogula Nirasamna Rally’ scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Indira Park. Te police denied the permission for the rally.

The JAC leaders said that the police personnel, including the Intelligence wing officials, were keeping a close watch on their movements and were following them like shadow.

A JAC leader said the activists had gone to a coaching institute to urge the institute management not to conduct the classes on Wednesday, so that the students can participate in the rally.

When they left the premises, they got a phone call from the unemployed youth stating that the police had cautioned the management institute against declaring holiday and directed it to conduct classes as usual.

Some of the students, who came to the JAC office, also complained that a few strangers had followed them and asked whether they would attend the rally and even suggested that they should not to do so. They were told that criminal cases would be filed against them if they attended the rally since it has no permission.

With the police following their vehicular movement, the JAC leaders decided to avoid travelling by their vehicles. Prof Purushottam travelled by an RTC bus instead of doing so in his own vehicle but the police personnel followed the professor in the bus as well.

The JAC leaders alleged that the police had been putting pressure on educational institutions not to give their vehicles for the rally.

The police also set up checkpoints on the outskirts to stop the youth from attending the rally.
