Discoms miss deadline to submit power tariff plans
The power utilities have yet again missed the deadline to submit the power tariff proposals to Telangana State Regulatory Commission (TSERC). The last deadline to submit the proposals was on Thursday.
​Hyderabad: The power utilities have yet again missed the deadline to submit the power tariff proposals to Telangana State Regulatory Commission (TSERC). The last deadline to submit the proposals was on Thursday.
Power utilities had sought time till 28th February but TSERC directed them to file the tariff proposals by 23rd February. The Discoms had filed the Aggregate Revenue Requirement report in November last year but required revenue to meet the expenditure in next financial year and sought time to file the tariff proposals.
When the Discoms failed to submit the proposals by 31st January, TSERC made it clear that they should file the proposals by 23rd February if not it would initiate suo motto action on determination of tariff.
The Discoms could not file the tariff proposals as the government is yet to finalise the quantum of subsidy it would bear. As per the Electricity Regulation Act, TSERC may now go ahead with seeking public opinion on the proposals and also the views of the Discoms.
ERC has to take up public hearing, before determining the tariff proposals for their implementation from 1st April. This leaves the Commission with just one month time which is not enough, sources say.
