Hyderabad: In a befitting commemoration of the historic centenary celebrations of Osmania University, The Hans India and HMTV jointly launched a uniquely conceptualised Gyan Jyoti at MPM Mall at Abids here on Saturday.

It marks the commencement of a splintered 100K Centenary Walk that will culminate with the varsity’s grand finale on April 26.

Athletics Dronacharya Nagapuri Ramesh, captain of the Indian women cricket team Mithali Raj, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Chief General Manager L Ananth Ram jointly lit the lamp while The Hans India and HMTV Editor-in-Chief Prof K Nageshwar and Executive Director Hanumanta Rao lit “Gyan Jyoti” torch.

After commencing at Nizam College, the walk will connect with different colleges every weekend.Placed at vantage positions in malls and heritage spots, it will be the starting point for one million signature campaign.

Lauding the initiative, Mithali Raj said that Osmania University boasts of a rich sports tradition, which gets evidenced by the celebrated achievers it has produced in a multitude of disciplines.

She said such physical outings will add to one’s fitness levels. Incidentally, Mithali Raj is also an ex-student of Osmania University.

Ramesh said “The 100K walk is unique. Such programmes will spread awareness and boost healthy living”. CGM of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) L Ananth Ram said “The 100K Walk organised by The Hans India and HMTV is a great initiative. They should be appreciated. They ought to be held on a regular basis”.
