​Hyderabad: Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud asked agriculture scientists to come up with new varieties of short and hybrid toddy or wine palm trees.

Addressing as a chief guest at a stakeholders meet on value added products from the wine palm trees jointly organised by Prof Jayashankar Telangana Agriculture University and Central Plantations Crop Research Institute, Kerala, he asked the scientists to come up with solutions for processing palm wine to benefit dependents of wine palm trees for their livelihoods.

Bhuvanagiri MP B Narasaiah Goud stressed the importance value added products from wine palm tree by adopting latest technologies to come up with suitable products for marketing. He said that the palm wine has several medicinal properties and highlighting the same would help in attracting market for the value added products.

PJTAGU Vice-Chancellor V Pravin Rao and CPCRI Director Chowdappa and other scientists were present and it was decided to establish two units to produce palm wine based products on pilot basis.
