The High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad has asked the Union government not to finalise any tenders for selling the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit at Adilabad for a period of three months in order to facilitate efforts of the Telangana government to convince the Centre about reviving the sick unit. 

Hyderabad: The High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad has asked the Union government not to finalise any tenders for selling the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit at Adilabad for a period of three months in order to facilitate efforts of the Telangana government to convince the Centre about reviving the sick unit.

The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akhter gave this interim direction on Monday while hearing a writ appeal filed by the CCI Employees Union, Adilabad cement factory unit against the dismissal of their petition by the single judge on February 7.

They had filed the petition against the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) decision to put on sale the Adilabad unit while reviving another unit located in the northeast at the behest of the then Union minister.

Telangana Advocate General K Ramakrishna Reddy informed the bench that Adilabad is one of the most backward regions of the state with mostly tribals.

Revival of this unit of the CCI would help in developing the region and therefore the state government was pursuing seriously with the Centre to take steps in this regard. He sought maintenance of status quo for a period of three months in order to enable these efforts to fructify.
