Hyderabad: In view of its expanded water supply network, State government is set to change the nomenclature of the existing Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) which came into existence two decades ago.

On request of the Board, State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department had proposed to call it as Jala Mandali, Hyderabad Mahanagar Water Supply and Sewerage Board as the jurisdiction of the board now extends beyond GHMC limits.

It now covers 190 villages, which fall under Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Medchal, Malkajgiri, Yadadri and Shamshabad districts.

The officials of the MA&UD Department said that the government has agreed in principle to change the name of the board which will come into effect soon after amending the municipal act.
