Additional Director General of Police D R Doley Barman, presently working as Director, North East Police Academy (NEPA), Shillong, Meghalaya, has been appointed as the Director of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

Hyderabad: Additional Director General of Police D R Doley Barman, presently working as Director, North East Police Academy (NEPA), Shillong, Meghalaya, has been appointed as the Director of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

The appointment comes in wake of the retirement of Aruna M Bahuguna, who demitted the office on her superannuation on Tuesday. The government temporarily downgraded the post of SVPNPA Director to Additional DGP level for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Barman would also hold the additional charge of NEPA Director till the appointment and joining of a new director for NEPA. Aruna Bahuguna received salute from the 139 IPS probationers at the SVPNPA at a specially convened Ceremonial Parade in view of her retirement.

Speaking on the occasion, the outgoing director exhorted the IPS Probationers to remember that their minute thoughts have the potential to reflect and contribute to country.

She also asked them to uphold their values and integrity as their only companion. Born on February 13, 1957, Aruna Bahuguna entered the Indian Police Service in 1979 in Andhra Pradesh cadre. Before assuming the charge of the Director, SVPNPA, she held the charge of Special Director General of CRPF.

In her professional career, spanning over 39 years, she served the State of undivided Andhra Pradesh in various positions. She also held several challenging assignments in Intelligence Bureau and with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

During her most successful three year tenure in the NPA, she made the institution touch new heights in professional excellence, a release from the academy said.

She was awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1995, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2005 and Home Minister’s Trophy for Heading the Best Police Training for Gazetted Officers in the year 2016.
