Hyderabad: The State government would take tough action against private hospital managements if they are found to have performed caesarean operations unnecessarily, Health Minister C Laxma Reddy said here on Tuesday.

Saying that reports showed that some private hospitals in the state are performing caesarean operations without justification, he said the government would not hesitate to "seize" such hospitals. A hospital in Mahbubnagar district had been seized in one such instance, Laxma Reddy added.

Speaking to media persons here, the Minister said the government would take stern action in such cases and would not hesitate to shut such hospitals. He directed the managements of hospital send monthly reports on surgeries being conducted to the government.

Laxma Reddy said the Health authorities were in receipt of reports that many hospitals were resorting to avoidable caesarean operations. He said all hospital must follow the surgery protocol and operations should be conducted only as a last resort.

The Health Minister said the process of modernisation and upgradation of government hospital has been going on at a rapid pace. He said all hospitals were being upgraded with latest equipment, doctors and para-medical staff.

He said that the government wants all deliveries to take place in government hospitals. He unveiled an app to obviate need for the ANMs to fill about 90 columns in a register every month. It would also help in real time monitoring. Videos on protection of pregnant women could be exhibited with the tabs given to ANMs, he said.
