Hyderabad: Stating that the State government would speed up construction of double-bedroom houses, IT Minister KT Rama Rao said the government would see that the programme would stand as a role model to the entire nation.
Rama Rao held a review meeting on the implementation of the 2BHK housing scheme in the municipal areas, especially in Hyderabad city, at the Secretariat here on Wednesday. Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal, senior officials and representatives of construction companies attended the meeting.
Speaking on occasion, the Minister said Telangana State stood as a role model in the nation in construction of pucca houses. The Chief Minister supervised the scheme directly, he said, and reiterated that one lakh houses would be constructed in Hyderabad as announced earlier.
Rama Rao said the State government had prepared plans to take up projects with regard to infrastructure in Hyderabad. He said the government would strive to complete skyways in the next two years. The State government was taking the double-bedroom houses scheme as its social responsibility, he said.
He urged the construction companies to participate in the construction of double-bedroom houses as a social responsibility. The Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development opined that the double-bedroom houses scheme would help make the city slum-free.
He said cement companies had come forward to provide cement at lesser price and the government had already discussed the issue with the cement companies and it had decided to provide sand free of cost, he said.
The State government would construct double-bedroom houses in a big way at one place to provide education, medical and other needed social infrastructure to the people living in double-bedroom houses. Making it clear that there was no trouble in paying bills, Rama Rao said the government had identified 600 acres of land for construction of double bedroom houses on the city outskirts.
