It seems currency crisis is once again looming large over Hyderabad.  Even the RBI has declared that currency crisis arising out of the demonetisation is a thing of past, most of the ATMs in Hyderabad has gone dry.  ‘No cash’ boards have appeared at most of the ATMs, causing misery for people. 

Hyderabad: It seems currency crisis is once again looming large over Hyderabad. Even the RBI has declared that currency crisis arising out of the demonetisation is a thing of past, most of the ATMs in Hyderabad has gone dry. ‘No cash’ boards have appeared at most of the ATMs, causing misery for people.

Most of the ATMs being operated by both the public and private sector banks were not replenished with currency. In some areas mainly at busy junctions like Ameerpet, Dilsukhnahar, Khairatabad, high-tech city, the teller machines remained closed since Wednesday morning.

Currency crunch has happened because of heavy withdrawal of money account holders after the restrictions on withdrawals were lifted. Depositing of money in the banks by individuals and commercial establishments is not high.

State Finance Department official said the RBI had funneled currency worth more than Rs 35, 000 crore into the State.

The newly introduced Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 currency notes were supplied to the banks to address crisis in the wake of demonisation high-value currency notes.

The officials said the issue of sudden currency crisis in the banks had been brought to the notice of RBI and also requested the banks to reload currency in some ATMS located at main junctions.
