Hyderabad: Country’s first women road transport corporation driver V Saritha, who is presently working as a contract driver in Delhi RTC, called on the Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy here on Friday and sought a driver’s job with the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.

Saritha is part of the Samsthan Narayanpur tribes in Nalgonda district. Responding to Saritha’s request, Reddy said that she would be given priority in the upcoming drivers recruitment drive under the women’s quota.

Mahender Reddy said that though women have special reservations for drivers posts in TSRTC, it was unfortunate that no one was coming forward to take those jobs. He urged women drivers to utilise the opportunity.

He also explained that the government had already provided 40 She cabs to woman drivers after imparting training as part of women’s empowerment in the State. The Minister said, “If Saritha wants to drive a cab, we are ready to provide her a car as she has received several awards and rewards,” the Minister said. It may be mentioned here that Saritha is Woman Achiever’s Awardee.
