Cashing in on the discontent among the members of the MIM, the Congress wooed six MIM ward members to its fold and surprised the MIM by capturing the Tandur civic body chairman post. The MIM had to be content with the vice-chairman post. Â

In the elections held here on Saturday with Sub-Collector Sanjay Jha, acting as returning officer, Sunita Sampath of Congress was elected as Municipal Chairperson while MIM’s Asif was elected as his deputy.
In the last civic body elections, TRS and MIM captured 10 wards each. Congress got eight seats while TDP and BJP have to be content with two sets and one seat respectively. In the presence of Minister Mahender Reddy, a power sharing agreement was reached between TRS and MIM of two-and-half-years each. When the MIMs turn came, the Congress engineered a split in the MIM wooing six members to its fold.
