Hyderabad: TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday announced the names of party candidates for the Legislative Council. A notification has been issued for three seats under the MLAs quota, one seat each for the Teachers’ Constituency and Local Bodies. There are two seats to be filled under the Governor’s quota.

Under the MLAs quota, the TRS candidates are Vullolla Gangadhar Goud, Alimineti Krishna Reddy and Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao. The Chief Minister has also finalised the names of D Rajeshwar Rao and Farooq Hussain under the Governor’s quota.

Krishna Reddy is the brother of former Home Minister Alimineti Madhav Reddy in the erstwhile TDP government in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. Krishna Reddy has been with the TRS for a long time and was the chairman of the party disciplinary committee. He had played an active role in the agitation for separate state.

Gangadhar Goud is a sitting MLC from the TDP. He later joined the TRS. D Rajeswara Rao is also a sitting MLC and was in the Congress earlier. He joined the TRS along with Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council N Vidyasagar Rao.

MLC Farooq Hussain was nominated to the Council by the Congress but later joined the TRS during the separate Telangana agitation. The TRS has already supported the candidature of MIM candidate Syed Amin-ul-Asad Jafri and declared the candidature of Katepalli Janardhan Reddy under the Teachers’ quota.

With this, for the ensuing MLC elections to seven seats, two were given to the Muslims, two to Reddy Community, one each to the Christians, Velamas and BCs. Though the name of CM’s political secretary Subhash Reddy has been considered for the MLC seat, he could not be accommodated in the last minute, party sources said.

The MLC candidates under the MLAs’ quota will file their nominations on Tuesday. Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, Municipal Administration Minister K Tarakarama Rao and TRSLP secretary Madati Ramesh Reddy will act as coordinators for the MLC polls.
