Hyderabad: Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and hailstones lashed Yadadri-Bhongir district on Tuesday for about an hour flooding the streets in Bhongir.

Under the impact of rain, standing paddy crops in 250 acres was damaged. In Veligonda mandal, lightning struck a coconut tree setting it afire.

The unseasonal rains caused damage to mango crop which is in flowering stage at many places. The officials are yet to assess the loss to various sectors because of the rain. The rains brought some relief to people suffering because of sweltering heat from the last week of February.

Vemulavada in Rajanna-Sircilla district experienced thunder showers accompanied by gales flooding the roads in the town. Rain water entered shops at many low-lying areas.

In the town, Jatara Grand, Andhra Bank, Ambedkar cross roads and other important junctions are flooded with rainwater. A hailstorm was also experienced in Chandurti mandal of the district.
