The South Central Railway undertook a special drive against unauthorised hawkers at its various railway stations in the zone. The Special teams comprising of officials drawn from Catering Department, Ticket Checking and Railway Protection Force (RPF) Personnel have been conducting intensive checks across all six divisions.

​Hyderabad: The South Central Railway undertook a special drive against unauthorised hawkers at its various railway stations in the zone. The Special teams comprising of officials drawn from Catering Department, Ticket Checking and Railway Protection Force (RPF) Personnel have been conducting intensive checks across all six divisions.

The special drive conducted on Monday led to bookings of 299 cases, which realised an amount of Rs 1.59 lakhs as penalty for the lapses detected. 27 persons were sent to the court for prosecution. These special teams extensively checked Railway stations and trains in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded.

The checks were also meant to inspect the cleanliness maintained at base kitchens, quality of food, correct weighment of food items.

In order to ensure that the food stalls on railway station platforms are manned by staff properly, fines have been imposed on them as well as vendors in trains for not carrying proper identity cards.

Priority is given to curb any type of unauthorised hawking in the railway premises and trains. The catering vendors are also cautioned to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations.
