Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy criticised the government for not including women in the State cabinet. In a statement on Tuesday, Uttam said that it appears that the government has no trust in the capabilities of women leaders.

He said despite constituting nearly 49 per cent of the total population in the state, women have not been taken into the cabinet. Telangana, he said is among the few states in the country where women have nil representation in the Council of Ministers.

He said that Telangana became a reality because of the firm commitment of AICC President Sonia Gandhi, who is a woman. But it was unfortunate that women were being denied their share of power in a state which was formed by a woman leader. He also criticised the Chief Minister for not giving nominated post to any woman.

Reacting to the constitution of a three-member panel by the Chief Minister to pick women candidates for nominated posts, he said that KCR was deceiving the women by making the announcement on the occasion of Women's Day. He said if the Chief Minister was honest and serious, then he would have constituted the committee long back and would have announced the appointment of women candidates on nominated posts today.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS government was not properly implementing the women welfare schemes in the state. He demanded that the Chief Minister immediately include a woman Minister in state cabinet and also ensure proper representation of women in nominated posts and state corporations.
