Hyderabad: Lauding the contribution of women scientists in achieving progress in research areas, the Union Minister of State for Defence, Dr Subhash Bhamre affirmed that these women had propelled India into the elite club of nations.

Addressing to women scientists, during the inaugural ceremony of International Women’s Day Celebrations ‘MUDRA’ at Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in DRDO, he felt that the nation owes their significant contributions as we have come a long way in terms of scientific advancements, since our Independence.

He noted that from mere buyers of technology, India had transformed itself towards contributing immensely for national development through its expertise in certain areas. “Sustained efforts of our women scientists have made the country a reckonable power in many areas and have propelled us to the elite club of nations,” he said.

The Union Minister of State affirmed that the Government has taken many initiatives to promote female child development and women empowerment like Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao, Mahila E-haat, Rashtriya Mahila Kosh, Women of India Exhibitions and other important programmes. “In recent years, there has been a paradigm shift in effective women participation in all walks of life but still there is a strong need to orient more and more women towards Science and Technology,” he emphasised.

K T Rama Rao, Minister of IT and Industries & Commerce stressed to break the stereotypes and lauded the efforts of women in the national development.  In his message, Dr G Satheesh Reddy said that the women of DRDO had always played a key role in the successful missions and have contributed immensely in strengthening the path of self-reliance in defence technologies.
