Hyderabad: Besides setting up Municipal Building Tribunal (MBT), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is contemplating to constitute a special enforcement wing to identify and demolish unauthorised constructions across the city.

The special enforcement teams would consist of police, revenue and town planning officials. The special wing would not speed up the demolition drive but also implement the MBT orders with immediate effect.

According to the GHMC official, citing the difficulties in the ongoing demolition drive the civic body has now decided to constitute a special team consisting of police, revenue and town planning officials. He said that the special teams will cross verify the data with all line departments in order check whether the building or layout were unauthorised or not. He said that special enforcement wing would be constituted by August.

When queried on the same subject, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that it has become a Herculean task for town planning wing officials to give building permissions, identify the unauthorised constructions and take up their demolition. He said that the town planning officials were not only facing stiff resistance from the owners of unauthorised construction but also pressure from political leaders.

He said that the special enforcement wing would primarily focus on nala encroachments and ongoing constructions. He said that the special teams would identify the unauthorised constructions in the primary stages and demolish them.

The official further said that they would also help Municipal Building Tribunal (MBT) which aims at speedy disposal of cases pertaining to un-authorised constructions. On the similar lines of MBT, the corporation would spend Rs 5 crore annually on the special enforcement wing. He said that the special wing would be set up in the same MBT building in order to verify data and facilitate citizens.

He said that the both MBT and enforcement wing will ensure the minimisation of unauthorised constructions. Meanwhile, MBT would help the corporation in speedy disposal of cases, minimise the injunction order from lower courts as there will be technical person to identify or examine whether the construction is authorised or un-authorised in the initial stage.

MBT has already got the Governor ESL Narasimhan’s nod and need clearance from the State government. The special enforcement wing along with MBT would speed up the demolition drive and implement latter’s orders with immediate effect.
