Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the government had made false claims in the Governors address to the joint session of Telangana Assembly and Council on the first day of the budget session on Friday. He said it was highly unfortunate that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government made the Governor speak lies in his customary address.

Speaking to media persons at the Assembly Media Point, Uttam Kumar Reddy said there was no mention of flagship schemes including double-bed room houses for weaker sections, 12 percent reservation for Muslims and STs, farmers’ suicides and other key issues.

“The figures of GSDP growth in the State were fakes. The TRS government did not clear crop loan waiver and fee reimbursement dues citing drop in growth rate and cash crunch. However, now it is claiming that the State’s GSDP growth was impressive at a rate of 13.7 percent and higher than the national average,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the claims on growth of agriculture sector were misleading. He said that the farm sector was in deep crisis in the State and the government did not bother to mention anything about suicides committed by farmers which were well documented by the National Crime Records Bureau. He said the production of food grains, cereals and other commodities had gone down during the Rabi season and the farmers were not getting the supporting price for their produce.

The TPCC chief ridiculed the State government for highlighting creation of 21 new districts as its achievement. The new districts were created in a completely unscientific manner and against the people's wishes. He said that the new districts did not benefit the common people in any way.

He also alleged that the TRS government was wrongly trying to take credit for the improved energy situation in the State. He said that the addition of 4,190 MW of power was due to the projects initiated during the previous Congress regime and the TRS government did not generate a single unit of power from the projects started during its rule.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the government should have at least mentioned the status of the 12 percent reservation to Muslims proposal and apologised for the delay in its implementation. He said the non-mention of 12 percent quota for Muslims and ST was an insult to both the communities.
