Hyderabad: The steps taken to improve energy sector efficiency in the last two-and-a-half years started paying dividends and gave a fillip to industrial, agriculture and commercial sectors in Telangana, said Governor ESL Narsimhan during his joint address to the State Legislature on Friday. Giving details of achievements, he said well-planned, coordinated and concerted steps had helped the State in effectively resolving power crisis.

The Governor said unlike in the past, the farm sector was now getting nine hours quality power during the daytime. This, he said, had helped in significant increase in production during the current Rabi season and market yards were brimming with agriculture produces of farmers.

Industrial sector which had earlier suffered due to power holidays twice a week was now immensely benefited by making the State a power surplus one with the government’s new concept of ‘power everyday and any time’. This had instilled confidence in investors and industrial and MSME sector. Commercial establishments and other sectors dependent on power were also stabilising their activities, the Governor said.

The Governor said that keeping in view the peak level power demand of 9,000 MW last month, power utilities were readying to provide uninterrupted power supply expected to touch about 10,000 MW during the ensuing summer. The Governor said the State had added 4,190 MW power generation to the existing 6,574 MW at the time of the formation of the State.

Steps were taken to ensure that the State would have a total availability of power to the tune of 16,306 MW by the end of next three years. This additional generation was expected from the power plants of Paloncha KPTS, augmentation from Chhattisgarh, Bhadradri, NTPC, Singareni, Yadadri and CGS, he said. The Governor further said that following the completion of Wardha-Dichpalli transmission line, it had now enabled the State to draw 2,000 MW of power from the Northern Grid.
