The allocations for irrigation sector registered a steep fall. The allocation for the 2017-18 budget is only Rs 25,000 crore as against Rs 26,600 crore allocated in 2016-17 budget. According to the revised budget estimates, the amount spent on irrigation in 2016-17 was only Rs 16,543.81 crore.

Hyderabad: The allocations for irrigation sector registered a steep fall. The allocation for the 2017-18 budget is only Rs 25,000 crore as against Rs 26,600 crore allocated in 2016-17 budget. According to the revised budget estimates, the amount spent on irrigation in 2016-17 was only Rs 16,543.81 crore.

Officials said that govt took several measures to spend all the funds. But legal hurdles and difficulties in land acquisition resulted in slow progress of many projects. According to the budget proposals, medium irrigation has been provided Rs 22,365 crore and Rs 2,318 crore for minor irrigation (Mission Kakatiya). In the previous year, Rs 2,452 crore was provided for Mission Kakatiya and Rs 23,893 crore to major and medium irrigation.
