Hyderabad: Stating that the budget presented by Finance Minister Eatala Rajender was a revolutionary one, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday said the budget had more allocations for weaker sections. The party said there was nothing wrong in taking loans for development works in the State.
Addressing a press conference after presentation of budget at TRSLP office along with MLA K P Vivekanand, Government Chief Whip K Eshwar said no government had allocated such huge money for the development of SC, ST, BC and Minorities.
The 19.61 per cent growth in the tax collections showed the State’s development index, he said, adding that out of the Rs 1.49 lakh crore budget, top priority was given to the weaker section. He said that Rs 14,375 crore was allocated for SCs, Rs 8,165 crore for STs, Rs 1,250 crore for minorities, Rs 5,070 crore for BCs, Rs 1,200 crore for weavers, Rs 500 crore for washermen and Nai Brahman communities and Rs 1,000 crore for the Most Backward Communities (MBCs).
“I have not seen such a revolutionary budget before. Instead of welcoming a budget aimed at development of poorer sections, the Opposition parties are indulging in unwanted criticism,” said the Government Whip.
Taking exception to the criticism of Opposition parties, Eshwar said people of Telangana had rejected Telugu Desam Party for its anti-Telangana stand and hence Revanth Reddy had no right to criticise the budget. He said it was not proper on part of Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to say the State was turning into a debt-ridden State. He said an effort was made to reconstruct the backward Telangana.
“There is no harm in taking loans as the money would be spent on development works and also welfare measures for the weaker sections. The government is implementing about 30 schemes and it also aims to provide irrigation to one crore acres, hence there is nothing wrong in taking loans,” said Eshwar.
