Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition, K Jana Reddy warned the government against moving ahead unilaterally in executing the power projects without proper planning.

Participating in the discussion on the budget proposals for the year 2017-18 in the State Assembly here on Thursday, he said Congress government in the united Andhra Pradesh had taken up multiple irrigation projects simultaneously and the consequences were there to be seen.

If there was no proper planning the State would end up in a financial mess, he said. Referring to the power sector, Jana Reddy said that the State government had entered into a MoU with Chhattisgarh to purchase 1000 MW of power.

The transmission line to avail power from Chhattisgarh has been completed. But, the State is not in a position to distribute more than 500 MW at present. But, the government will have to pay fixed charges to Chhattisgarh which would put financial burden on the State.

Once , government completes power projects like KPTS (800 MW) 1089 from Bhadradri Power Plant (BPP), 4000 MW from NTPC, 800 MW from Singareni, 4,000 MW from Yadadri, 809 from CGS and others, State will have excess power generation even after factoring the power demand of the lift irrigation schemes.

This shows that the government is more interested to showcase big achievements than coming up with realistic budget with realistic allocations to execute works keeping in view the interests of the State, he said.
