Hyderabad: It appears the State government is not very keen on the constitution of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TSCPCR) despite the increasing incidents of child abuse.

Earlier, the government constituted a six-member Commission in February 2014. Subsequently, three of its members were allocated to Andhra Pradesh following bifurcation of the State. Three other members were allocated for Telangana. But two of the members, who were allocated to Telangana State, quit. Now, one member, Achyuta Rao, is still continuing, but there is no government support.

Asked about non-constitution of the Commission, Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Stuti Kacker told The Hans India that, “I have written repeatedly to the Chief Secretary on this issue, but there is no response.”

There appears to be some confusion following bifurcation of the State, she said. The NCPCR Chairperson also said the National Commission and State Commission were parallel organisations and she cannot give orders either to the State Commission or to the State government. It is for the State government to constitute the Commission, the NCPCR chairperson said.
