Hyderabad: Telangana is a fast developing State in India and is making rapid strides in chosen sectors, according to Finance Minister Eatala Rajender. Participating in a debate on budget in the Assembly on Friday, the Finance Minister said the youngest State was getting accolades from the Centre and other States for its speedy growth.

Though the Centre used to be averse to the State, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley appreciated the Telangana government for registering rapid development. Telangana also emerged revenue surplus State during 2015-16. Though demonetisation had its adverse affect for the first three months, later the situation had changed significantly due to steps taken by the State government, he claimed.

He also said they reached the budget revenue expectations last year, Rajender said, adding that the government had come up with a unique budget for the 2017-18 fiscal by taking suggestions from experts and experienced economists. A total of Rs 97,823 crore was spent for achieving 19.33 per cent growth during 2015-16 financial year, he claimed.

To reach its goal of golden Telangana, the government had taken up a big initiative, launching various developmental programmes from village-level enabling the people to grow and flourish gradually and now that the villages were witnessing rapid development, he remarked.

Citing welfare schemes, he said the government had increased Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak amounts to Rs 75,116 from Rs 51,000 and was ready to spend huge funds for providing fine rice to the hostels across the State.
