Hyderabad: Lack of technical knowledge and computer skills has led to the officials in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation depend on the data entry operators, who are outsourced employees.

These officials share the digital key with the data entry operators giving scope for several irregularities. This is how the illegal mutation of property had taken place in the ownership from D Rama Bai to K Koteshwara Rao without the knowledge of officials concerned.

Sources said Friday's incident was an eye-opener to the officials and it was only one out of a number of corrupt practices adopted by the data entry operators. The GHMC has terminated two employees in this regard.

The outsourced employees, it is alleged, have been manipulating the files not only in the office but also using their mobile phone data and other means of communication. When asked about it, a senior IT wing official told The Hans India that about 95 per cent of the officials shared their digital key with the data entry operators.

When asked what measures the GHMC was taking to curb malpractices and make officials technically literate, the official said “the GHMC would now adopt intranet and MAC-IP binding, which allows us to reserve static IP assignment for a user, technology, which is a network accessible only to an organisation's staff.” He said the GHMC would also give orientation classes to all employees on weekly basis.
