Four-day Chinese film festival begins today
A four-day Chinese film festival will be held here from Monday screening seven films from China which include Crouching Tiger and Dragon to commemorate 40th anniversary of the film society here.
Karimnagar: A four-day Chinese film festival will be held here from Monday screening seven films from China which include Crouching Tiger and Dragon to commemorate 40th anniversary of the film society here.
The event is being organised with the support from the Chinese Embassy and the Government of Telangana. The society was founded on February 19, 1978. The maiden film screened was Parineeta. It also screened Bengali film Pather Panchali of eminent director Satyajit Ray. It has the credit of screening the first silent movie Bhakta Prahlada and first talkie Alam Ara.
A youth from the district, Pydi Jayaraj, who studied in Nizam College, acted in a Bollywood silent movie Star King Youth. Apart from him, several from the district have stepped into the celluloid world. C Narayana Reddy, reputed lyricist in Tollywood industry hails from Karimnagar district.
The film society lends a helping hand to the prospective actors who want to make it big in the film world besides screening several thought-provoking films for the benefit of the people of the district.
Member of the film society Varala Anand said that the society turned forty. As part of a series of programmes planned this year, a four-day Chinese film festival is being held. The films to be screened include Crouching Tiger and Dragon. “The society thanks the Chinese embassy for its cooperation in holding the event,” he said.
Secretary of the society Madisetty Gopal said that it was a joyous occasion to host the film festival in the city. He appealed to film lovers to turn out in large numbers and make the event a grand success. “To encourage such novel events is the responsibility of one and all,” he felt.
