Hyderabad: The BJP MLAs G Kishan Reddy and K Laxman on Thursday alleged that the State government was not releasing funds to the civic bodies though the Centre allotted grants for local bodies.

Raising the issue during the Question Hour in the State Assembly, Kishan Reddy said the Centre has been allotting Rs 80 lakh for Gram Panchayats and Rs 2 crore for Municipalities annually. But, the civic bodies continue to reel under acute financial crisis.

Laxman asked the government to provide funds to strengthen the civic bodies. He urged the State government to take steps to ensure that the funds reach the civic bodies.

Reacting to the allegation, Minister for Panchayat Raj Jupally Krishna Rao said the State is yet to get Rs 390 crore under 13th Finance Commission recommendations and another Rs 900 crore under 14th Finance Commission recommendations. Of a total of Rs 2,330 crore was due to the State.

So far the it had got only Rs 1,8236 crore from the Centre, he said. Similarly, under the Prime Minister Sadak Yojana funds to the tune of Rs 800 crore are yet to be received, he added.

However, notwithstanding all these constraints the State government had decided to construct new buildings at an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh per building in about 2,000 gram panchayats in the State, the Minister said.
