​Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao dispelled apprehensions that Hyderabad city would face water crisis during the coming summer months.

Replying to a question by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, during Question Hour, the Minister said that the situation was not alarming as far as water supply was concerned. He said enough raw water storage was available in the source reservoirs which can take care of normal water supply to Hyderabad city.

Giving details, he said from Krishna water scheme, the full design drawls of 270 Mgd and full design drawls of 172 Mgd from Godavari waters from Yellampally barrage was available. He said at present, 404 Mgd is being supplied from all sources as compared to the last year supply of 355 Mgd.

Additional 28 Mgd from Krishna and 58 Mgd from Godavari will be supplemented from April onwards, he said.
The Minister informed that in the core city there are seven O&M divisions with 4.74 lakh service connections.

Presently there is alternate day water supply in the core city ensuring the 150 LPCD as per norms. Daily water supply is also being provided to the BPL families in the slum areas and in the feasible areas.

KTR said that in the peripheral circles, there are seven O&M divisions having 4.3 lakh connections. About 4 lakh connections are being provided with alternative day supply and also daily supplies are provided for the BPL families in the feasible areas.

KTR said that HMWSSB has also taken up the summer action plan at a cost of Rs. 5.8 crore to attend to the repairs of hand bore wells, power bore wells, valves, junction works and providing additional tanker trips to cope up with the summer contingency problems to ensure proper water supply in the Hyderabad city.

Senior officers are deployed to monitor the shortfalls of water supply to any reservoirs/division and to ensure sufficient quantities for the next day supplies and also the flow rates through bulk flow meters are being monitored through SCADA system from the head office, the minister added.
