Lorry Owners' Associations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have decided to launch an indefinite strike of transport vehicles. The decision made in tune with the South India Motor Transport Association (SIMTA), will kick start from Thursday morning as all the transport vehicles will come to a halt from 6 AM on March 30.

Telangana transport minister P Mahender Reddy is expected to hold a second round of talks with the striking unions while the state government has urged the district collectors to make sure that there is no shortage of essential commodities during the strike.

In the earlier talks, the leaders of the transport association were given an assurance that the state government would solve the issues and take up the issues at a higher level with the Central government.

One of the top demands of the Lorry Owners' Associations is to strike a deal between the two Telugu states for a 'single permit system'. Since the bifurcation, the lorry owners are having to pay Rs 5,000 per month instead of per year for a single permit to enter neighbouring states.
