Hyderabad: With the Supreme Court banning the registration of Bharat Stage-III vehicles from April 1, city showrooms offered massive discounts drawing hundreds of citizens to purchase the vehicles on discounts.

With the huge rush, the showrooms exhausted the stocks in no time and displayed ‘BS3- No Stock’ boards leaving many citizens disappointed.

The showrooms in the city gave a crowded look on Friday and many of the visitors were enquiring about the price of the BS-III model vehicles. The showrooms were giving a discount of Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 on different types of vehicles. A showroom dealer said that they were giving a discount of Rs 8,000 on bikes and Rs 12,000 on scooters.

Dealwell Automobiles showroom representatives told The Hans India that they had sold about 100 BS-III model vehicles during the last two days. “This is unprecedented… we have never seen such a situation.

Usually the discounts were in a few hundreds and free insurance, but this time the discounts were in thousands,” said a representative.Praveen Kumar, manager of Shanti TVS at Himayatnagar, said the showroom had sold all the 40 BS-III model vehicles. The Royal Enfield showroom at Himayatnagar had business as usual. The representative said that they had only BS-IV models with them.

Many had to leave the showrooms disappointed as they displayed ‘BS-III No Stock’ boards. Zuber Ahmed, who came to a showroom near Himayatnagar said that the showroom personnel were deceiving people with their advertisements. “I have gone to three showrooms since morning and there is no stock,” said an angry Zuber.

Hyderabad RTO GPN Prasad told The Hans India that in the last two days the showrooms in the city had registered over 15,000 vehicles of BS-III models approximately. He said that on Thursday alone, 9,800 vehicles were registered.

There are around 200 showrooms in the city and approximately there are close to 27,000 vehicles of BS-III compliant. He said the RTA offices will not register the BS-III vehicles from Saturday. The entire process is online and hence there is no scope for malpractices, he added.
