Hyderabad: Former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday tried to hold dharna at Raj Bhavan demanding the Governor E S L Narasimhan to initiate action against defected MLAs in both Telangana and AP, instead of administering oath to them as Ministers.

After a brief argument with the police personnel deployed at Raj Bhavan, he was arrested along with some other party activists from the site.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Governor instead of taking action against the defected MLAs was administering oath to them as Ministers both in Telangana and AP. Finding fault with the Governor for administering oath to Minister for Animal Husbandry in TS, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, he felt that the Governor has failed to uphold the constitutional duties as the highest authority in Telangana.

Hanumantha Rao alleged that rather discontinuing this practice, Narasimhan was gearing up to administer oath to defected MLAs from YSRCP to TDP, as Ministers in Andhra Pradesh.

“If the Governor continues with the practice in AP, it would amount to murdering the democracy in another Telugu State” he said. Cautioning the Governor to mend his ways, Hanumantha Rao said that the issue would be taken up with the President Pranab Mukherjee as part of the battle to protect democracy.
