Hyderabad: Unique Smart Addressing Solution for Urban Dwellings (USASUD) project in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits went for a toss due to legal fight among private agencies. The civic body finalised the tender of private agency, but it is now facing legal problem.
Official claimed that the project was temporarily put on hold and would proceed after seeking clarifications from legal experts.
According to GHMC official, USASUD project had been taken up for providing navigation details and address location service. He said the initiative had proved a success at Domalguda in Hyderabad where digital number plates were fixed to the houses and street signboards erected. The GHMC officials decided to extend the it to the entire city.
When queried about the same, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the civic body had already finalised the tender for a private agency but it has mow been facing legal problems. Another private agency had filed a petition in the court, saying that the agency for which the GHMC finalised tender was not eligible to take up the project. The officials have now decided to seek legal opinion on how to go ahead. The process would take at least three months, he added.
The GHMC official further said the civic body has decided to collect Rs 60 per each digital plate from 22 lakh households. The private agency, which is entrusted with the task, is required to maintain it for 15 years. He said new addressing solution has been proposed, navigation details, address location services and digital numbers would ensure address location service to the people within the GHMC limits.
