GHMC provides 273 crore loans to SHGs

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) during the financial year 2016-17 handed over a whopping Rs 273 crore through interest-free loans to 8,824 Self Help Groups (SHG) within the city limits. The Corporation stood first in the country by providing interest loans beyond the target.

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) during the financial year 2016-17 handed over a whopping Rs 273 crore through interest-free loans to 8,824 Self Help Groups (SHG) within the city limits. The Corporation stood first in the country by providing interest loans beyond the target.

According to GHMC official, the civic body's urban community development set a target of Rs 248 crore interest free loans to 11,624 SHGs but the corporation has provided Rs 273 crore loans through bank linkage. There are about 42,925 SHGs in the GHMC. Each group consists of 10 to 12 women. In total, there are about 5,10,000 women working in 42,925 SHGs.
