Hyderabad: Three treasure hunters were arrested, during cordon and search operation conducted in midnight in parts of Old city by South Zone police. The accused dug 20-feet deep pit inside a house, claiming to unearth the treasure with the help of sorcery.

The operation which continued till 2 am on Sunday under the command of K Babu Rao, Additional DCP of South Zone in areas including Bhavani Nagar, Rein Bazar, Chatrinaka, Aman Nagar, Talabkatta and Chandrayanguta rounded up 40 persons and 8 rowdy-sheeters. During the operation, the police also caught Ayyub Khan, who allegedly murdered his son-in-law Feroz at Aman Nagar on Friday night, as Feroz was reportedly harassed his daughter.

According to police, the treasure hunters including the prime accused, Sameer, a cab driver were digging the pit for last two months, after convincing the occupant Irfan that a treasure from the Nizam era was buried in his house. Believing them, Irfan also paid Rs 10,000 as advance for conducting nefarious activity allegedly by employing sorcery.

The police seized incense sticks, talisman and lemon from the site. “A 20-feet deep trench was uncovered inside the house during the cordon and search operation in Chatrinaka. We are investigating if they also attempted in animal sacrifice,” said DCP, V Satyanarayana.

During the entire operation, about 40 two-wheelers and few auto-rickshaws were seized, as the owners failed to produce any relevant documents to the police. In the late night operation, a total of 450 police force took part.
