Hyderabad: Stating that all arrangements were made for procurement of paddy during Rabi season in the State to ensure minimum support price (MSP) to farmers, Civil Supplies Commissioner C V Anand said paddy procurement operations would commence from the next week. In view of bumper production in Rabi season, efforts are being made to ensure that the farmers get minimum support price.

Civil Supplies Commissioner conducted a meeting with officials on Tuesday and reviewed the arrangements for procurement of paddy in Rabi season. Stating that 3,076 paddy purchase centres were opened, Anand said during Rabi last year, the corporation procured 8.42 lakh MT of paddy through 1,288 purchase centres.

In view of the four-fold increase in paddy yield in the present Rabi, he said they opened 3,076 paddy purchase centres now (IKP 1101, PACs 1771 and DCMS/TDA 204) with a target of procurement of 37 lakh MT. The Civil Supplies Corporation hopes market arrivals of paddy will be 11.35 lakh MT in April, 18.92 LMTs in May and 7.57 LMTs in June.

Anand said instructions were given to open paddy purchase centres within the reach of farmers and to ensure that no farmer was allowed to wait at the centre for a long time and provide sufficient number of moisture meters, paddy cleaners, winnowing machines, tarpaulins, drinking water, toilets and other facilities.

Instructions were already issued to see that paddy purchase centres are opened in a radius of 5 km for procurement of 500 to 1000 MTs of paddy depending upon availability of godown space. As unseasonal rains are expected in May to June, instructions were also issued to field-level officers to utilise schools for storage purpose to avoid damages to paddy. He also announced Rs 1,510 minimum support price for A Grade paddy and Rs 1470 common variety.

The Commissioner also said meetings were held with Joint Collectors in the district level and all arrangements were made for paddy procurement. In view of bumper crop being expected in Rabi, special attention is paid to storage space, gunnies transportation and CMR allotments. Action was being taken to see that 10 LMT godown space was available with FCI by the time paddy purchase commenced, he added.
