Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has instructed the officials to sanction a sheep unit to every person, who is over the age of 18 years, belonging to Yadav and Kuruma communities in the State. At a review meeting held at Pragathi Bhavan here on Thursday,

Chief Minister directed the officials to make an arrangement for the purchase of the sheep after the onset of monsoon this year. Sheep units would be distributed to about 4 lakh Yadav and Kuruma families. He asked the officials to frame the guidelines for sheep rearing scheme in a transparent way.

KCR said more beneficiaries would come under the purview of the scheme only when the rules were made plain. The scheme would not have any linkage with banks. The State government would give 75 per cent subsidy and 25 per cent would be borne by the beneficiaries, he said.

Each unit comprises 20 sheep and a ram. Expenditure for each unit is estimated to be Rs 1.25 Lakh. Of this, the beneficiary should bear 25 per cent (Rs 31,250), the government will provide 75 per cent - Rs 93,750 - as subsidy. The officials were asked to frame guidelines to ensure that every persons, who is above 18 years, belonging to Yadav and Kuruma families become member of the society to be formed.

More than one person in a family can become member. If need be, more number of societies will be formed. Sheep units will be given to every member of the society. Those, who already own sheep, will also get sheep units. Even if somebody is having a job in the family, his father or brother can become a member and get the sheep.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary S P Singh, Principal Secretaries S. Narsing Rao, Shanti Kumari, Secretary Smitha Sabharwal, Special Secretary Bhoopal Reddy, Meat and Poultry Development Corporation Managing Director Laxma Reddy and others participated in the meeting.
