Hyderabad: It has been more than a year, since the TS Wakf Board intervened and slammed cases to stop construction of a structure on Wakf property attached to Masjid-e-Nana Bagh on the main road in Basheerbagh and obtained a status quo order from the court, the construction works continued unabatedly and the building is now nearing completion.

“It was during February 2016, the issue was brought to the notice of the then CEO, Mohammed Asadullah who reached the spot along with the team and asked the businessman Nand Kishore Agarwal to stop the construction activity. Agarwal promised to do so and remove the blue sheets covering the structure but he failed to do.

Following this, cases were registered with police and even a status quo order from the court was obtained. Even this did not deter the builder from going ahead with the construction activity. Recently, they have also laid concrete slab. Vehicles can be seen standing on the road during night hours,” said S M Abdul Qadeer, a local who has been observing the activity.

As per the records available with Wakf Board, at least 6 acres of land belongs to Wakf and most of it has been encroached upon. The extent of property attached to Nana Bagh mosque is 1,246 sq yards, out of which the property in question is about 200 sq yards, facing main road.

MBT spokesperson, Amjedullah Khan, who campaigned against this construction activity lamented that the official (former CEO) who seriously took up the issue was now transferred, hence the construction activity had resumed. “No, we don’t have an official who can take on big businessmen with political background,” he said.

According to Wakf Board officials, who had intervened at least thrice from February 2016, there has been no respite in construction activity. Hence they are now contemplating to file a contempt petition in the court. Wakf Board Chairman, Mohammed Saleem told The Hans India that the issue was being taken up seriously and records were being verified.

“We wrote to City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy to initiate action on the encroached land as police personnel are not cooperating. We shall also be forming a Task Force to deal this kind of issues,” Saleem said.
