Hyderabad: Introduction of biometric attendance system (BAS)by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has failed to achieve the desired results and irregularities are reportedly continuing, resulting in loss of about Rs 110 crore per annum to the civic body. With a view of this, the GHMC has now decided to verify the data of outsourced employees.

The civic body would now compare the current data with December month data to curb the irregularities in BAS system. The GHMC official said that due to the manipulation by the ground level staff the corporation has been losing out on about Rs 110 crore. According to the GHMC official, the civic body has introduced the BAS to curb the malpractices and manipulations by the staff.

The GHMC staff has been marking outsourced employees present even if they were absent. He also said that in order to cover up the irregularities the sanitary field assistants (SFA) hand in glove with the corporation officials have recruited their family members with fake names and have been drawing wages.

When asked about it, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the corporation would verify the old data with current in order to check the irregularities. The official said that the civic body has termed it as data purification programme.

He said that the corporation would scrutinise all recruitments after introducing BAS. He said all ineligible persons would be taken off the rolls. He said that the GHMC would scrutinise the names of all 2,626 sanitation groups, 2,674 regular workers, 18,382 contract workers, 46 sanitary supervisors, 305 sanitary jawans and 948 SFAs.

The GHMC official further said that the recruitment of sanitation workers for the civic body would be done directly by State government for which it had released GO 181. Meanwhile, the official said that the civic was spending Rs 450 crore to pay salaries to the outsourced employees and according to a preliminary report about Rs 110 crore has been misused.
