The State government has formed a special committee to give a facelift to the city libraries. It may be mentioned here that The Hans India had on Thursday carried a report over GHMC collecting Rs 100 crore while it spends only Rs 1.8 cr.

Hyderabad: The State government has formed a special committee to give a facelift to the city libraries. It may be mentioned here that The Hans India had on Thursday carried a report over GHMC collecting Rs 100 crore while it spends only Rs 1.8 cr.

The special committee consists of GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, State Central Library Chairman Dr A Sridhar and Director, Department of Language & Culture, Telangana State, Mamidi Hari Krishna.The committee will visit the libraries and recommend measures for development.

The team would focus on improvement of basic amenities like drinking water, toilets, reading rooms, furniture and other aspects, besides focusing on digital libraries and e-libraries. Most of the buildings are several years old and are in dilapidated condition. T

ugh a few minor repairs were taken up at some libraries like the one at Bible House, the committee will now come up with comprehensive plans for all round development of libraries.In the first phase, measures for improvement of conditions in major libraries will be taken up and the developmental works on other libraries would be taken up in the second phase.
