Hyderabad: Describing the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad as the citadel of the Congress, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy exhorted the party cadre to regain its lost ground in the next general elections.

The TPCC chief asks party men to focus on door-door-door campaigning so that the Congress can win all 15 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats in twin cities in the 2019 elections

Addressing the meeting with Hyderabad city unit Congress leaders and workers at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed on unity among all leaders and workers to ensure that the party wins all 15 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats in Hyderabad and Secunderabad in the 2019 elections.

He said the Congress workers should focus on door-to-door contact programmes and take up local issues so as to organise mass agitations on matters concerning common people. He said no other party in the State could match the organisational skills of the Congress and the party should be rejuvenated on immediate basis.

Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Congress would organise a Satyagraha on April 17 at the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar near Tank Bund. The TPCC chief strongly condemned the decision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to shift the Dharna Chowk from Indira Park and said the move was aimed at suppressing people’s right to protest. He said the Congress would strongly oppose the dictatorial and undemocratic decisions of the KCR government.

He also accused the Chief Minister of foisting false cases on Congress workers. Stating that the Congress workers were not afraid of fake police cases, he warned that the party would organise ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation if the police repression continued.Uttam Kumar Reddy said the existing development in Hyderabad and its outskirts was brought by the previous Congress regime.

He said the previous Congress government had spent over Rs 1 lakh crore from 2004-2014 to construct projects like Outer Ring Road, PVNR Express Way, new international airport, Metro Rail, flyovers, MMTS and Krishna and Godavari water to Hyderabad for drinking purpose. He said the present TRS government did not contribute anything for city's development. However, he said the Congress had lost the last GHMC elections only due to EVM tampering done by the TRS government.

The TPCC chief said Chandrashekar Rao and his family members were now enjoying power only due to Congress president Sonia Gandhi giving Telangana State. However, he said instead of being thankful, they were abusing the Congress while they themselves did nothing for the development of Telangana or welfare of people.Addressing the meeting earlier, AICC secretary R C Khuntia said the Congress High Command had full faith in the leadership of Uttam Kumar Reddy and TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

He said the AICC strongly believed that Uttam would lead the party to power in the next elections. He stressed on strengthening the party at grass root level and announced that mandal, village and booth level committees would be in place by middle of next month.
