Hyderabad: The eight day lorry strike, which had an impact on the different sectors dependant on the transportation, is likely to heave the cement rates further, directly affecting the construction sector. The lorries stranded mid-way are leading to an artificial scarcity in the market.

The halt had resulted in the shooting up of cement prices from Rs 260-270 to Rs 350 a bag causing severe hardships to the owners of buildings which are under construction. The affects of the strike are gradually emerging, as the essential commodities had been exempted.

This had spared the common man from the affects of the strike by the lorry transporters. The real estate sector which was recovering from the impact of the demonetisation was faced by the lorry strike as it started showing signs of partial recovery. Both house-owners and builders like Rahul and Narsimha Reddy are feeling the heat, as the supply had stopped during the last four-five days.

As a result, the traders are resorting to hoarding of the available stocks, thus creating an artificial scarcity. The traders are selling at a higher rate if consumers approach them at their stock points. Those in urgent need are forced to pay extra to secure cement. The rate for cement during the last week was Rs 260-270 a bag which has gone up to Rs 350.
