Warangal Urban: The police on Monday arrested TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy and several Congress leaders when they staged a protest at the Enumamula Market office in support of agitating chilli farmers.

Former Minister D Sridhar Babu and party were prevented from entering the Market Yard by the police when they went there to support the agitating chilli farmers. However, the party leaders and workers in a large number gatecrashed into the Market Yard as the TPCC chief arrived.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, accompanied by party senior leaders G Vijayarama Rao, G Venkata Ramana Reddy, R Kantha Rao, Errabelli Swarna, District Congress president N Rajender Reddy, City Congress leaders Rajanala Srihari and K Srinivas Rao went round Enumamula agriculture market.

Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his failure to come to the rescue of chilli farmers who were in distress as the price for the produce crashed. It was inhuman on the part of the Chief Minister and Ministers concerned in giving a short shrift to farmers.

He demanded a minimum support price of of Rs 12,000 per quintal chilli and Rs 5,500 per quintal red gram along with Rs 450 bonus offered to the farmers.

Former Minister P Balram Naik, DCC Bank chairman J Raghava Reddy, MLA D Madhava Reddy, ex-MLA P Veeraiah, the party leaders E V Srinivasa Rao, G Jyothi, M Vinod Kumar, N Srinivas and others were present.
